After last weeks’ release of the adidas Originals “Blank Canvas” capsule, Pharrell Williams and adidas join forces yet again, to bestow upon us their new Hindu-Inspired “Holi” adicolor collection. The upcoming collection sees a whole new approach to incorporating color to footwear through the contemporary technique of powder-dyeing, which correlates to a major aspect of the Hindu Festival, as well as guaranteeing each and every pair to be unique.
If you’re wondering what’ll be available once the release arrives, Pharrell has taken on classic adidas Original pieces such as the timeless Stan Smiths, and the Tennis Hu PK. The trainers, in silhouette-like form will have the upper shoe powder-dyed, and the lining and midsoles will remain white for an effective contrast against the energetic color. In addition to the footwear, the Holi Collection will also host a range of apparel, including track tops, T-shirts, shorts, and track pants.
For those who may not know, Holi is a Hindu spring time festival, traditionally celebrated in the India subcontinent, where people get together and celebrate the victory of good over evil, which is associated with the beginning of spring, and the end of winter. Known as the “festival of colors”, or the “festival of love”, Holi is best known around the world for the range of various powdered colors and water being thrown around cities, which results in a colorful spectacle quite like nothing else.
The collection is said to be releasing on the March the 2nd this year, where they’ll be initially available via the adidas Originals web store, and in locations across India, two weeks before they’ll be available globally.
It’s no secret that Pharrell is one for vibrant creativity, which we can tell from his previous collaborative collections in the Hu NMDs, it’s also evident that the urban music veteran often embraces a variety of different cultures around the world, including the highly anticipated Hu NMD China colorway, which can be read about here.
